Hi,
XI/PI is integration flat form, if u have interest we can shift and it is very easy to learn to u why because u have R3 knowledge so it will help u for fast learning. Meanwhile XI/PI support ABAP/JAVA, so it is very easy to work on mapping functions.
Follow below link for XI/PI learning

Hi ramya k ,
Now we call it as PI(Process Integration) not XI.
PI is configuration part. It is middle ware between two systems.
It will take data from sender convert into xml format & sends it to reciever.
The pre-requisites for PI are ABAP, OO ABAP, XML.
There are many scenarios like FILE TO FILE, FILE TO IDOC, FILE TO JDBC, PROXY TO PROXY, FILE TO HTTP,...
There are good job oppurtunities in PI. But we all as we know, we need to update ourselves. Now in PI, advanced is SOA.
PI is one of Netweaver components. Other components include BI, EP, MDM,.....

Hi,
Yes,Its really a good idea as now a days PI is based on Service Oriented Architecture.
If you have a basic Java core knowledge that will add an advantage.
All the best.
Thanks,
Kalyan.

The skill XI with ABAP background is in great demand in the present market. If one knows XI with ABAP/Java, that will be greatly helpful.
XI stands for eXchange Infrastructure, which is an Integration Technology Solution from SAP.
It is a Middleware technology. Eventhough, we have many middleware technologies, XI has great scope in future.
Future of XI as per the current stage it is very good as Xi has previously came up with XI2.0,XI3.0 then PI7.0 and they are coming with PI 7.1 with SOA which has advantage over other integration tool.
PI 7.1 is also based on SOA and more new features which customer wants in the current market.
Please Check This Thread , Here Same Discussion is Gone
