SAP NetWeaver 7.01 - ABAP Trial installation failing

Former Member

I downloaded the trial from the this [location|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/webcontent/uuid/b2918eea-0601-0010-6284-e6cb7eee4399]. I am trying to install this in a Virtual PC Windows Server 2003. I have tried several times, but it consistently fails in the same place (I back out changes and try again, so no need for regclean, etc.). I've gone through the forum and found several things that appear to be close, but nothing that seems specific to my issue. I have verified that I have plenty of disk space in the VPC and on the host. I am pasting in the contents of the log.txt file, and the referenced MAXDBSAPNWPrev.log file below that. I am going to try to re-download the RAR files just in case, but, in the mean time, if anyone has any suggestions or pointers, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tobias,

Are you still having problems with the install or did you get this resolved?

I experienced a similar problem and finally got my NW 7.01 SP1 working in a virtual machine.

My virtual system setup on my laptop:

Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and Windows Vista Ultimate

System/Boot Drive 25GB

Pagefile 12GB

Data Drive 36GB

RAM 1,7GB

(I only ran one virtual system at a time because of the limited memory)

The MaxDB requires a lot of disk space for and after the install.

After an unsuccessful install, I kept running into the same problem that you described above. To really do a clean uninstall I did the following:

1. Ran the 'Uninstall - System/Standalone/Optional Standalone...' process under SAP Netweaver 7.01 SR1 - Software Life-Cycle options - Uninstall'

2. Ran the registry clean tool found in the \Addtional_Tools\RegCleanTool directory of the downloaded extracted rar files.

3. Removed the following directories and their contents:

\Program Files\sapinst_instdir

\Documents and Settings\{user}\Local Settings\Temp

A few other things to help the install go smoothly:

- host name with less than 13 characters

- loop back adapter installed

- IP 10.10.0.10 with host local or localhost in the hosts file

- sapmmc snap-in and SAPGui installed prior to starting

Also don't use any special characters in the master password. The instructions says you can, but the database doesn't like it at all. So, just use numbers and characters for the password; or you can assign the database password at the Parameter Summary during the installation.

Regards,

Jasper

Just a follow up - I re-downloaded the package, and tried again - same result. I tried a second W2K3 VPC, and I tried a brand new XP Pro SP2 VPC - both with the exact same result.

I have the same problem. I checked the size of the files and in fact the second file was shorter than expected:

SAP NW 7.01 ABAP Trial Part 1 (file size exactly: 1.700.000.000 bytes)

SAP NW 7.01 ABAP Trial Part 2 (file size exactly: 1.544.175.037 bytes)

Now I'm downloading again. Dis you check the file size?

Cheers

I had the same problems under XP SP2 with loopback adapter.

I finally solved it by upgrading to SP3 by using the offline update service at http://www.heise.de . I had some problems installing the loopback adapter by I could solve them. Do you need further information?

HI there

It's a SERVER so it needs a network - even if it's on the same machine. That's why the loop back adapter is needed if you aren't connected to a LAN or the Internet.
