Can we upgrade ECC5.0 to ECC6.0 without using Solution Manager?

I read thru the document and I think we can do the upgrade without the SM.

Please input your opinions.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

If you want to upgrade you need to get the Solution manager key and to download the Support packages also you need the approval from the Solution Manager.

If you want to include EHP's then you need a solution manager connected to atleast one of the systems in your landscape. using the solution manager you have to generate the configuration file which is needed by the SAPup to get the stack generated.

If the system to be upgraded is already connected to your solution manager then no need to generate the config file manually but if it not connected to solution manager then you need to generate the configuration file manually and provide it in the Prepare.

Thanks,

Venkat.

Hi Ashley

- it comes with content which simplifies the upgrade, or which allows you to create own documentation, and as such it is higly recommended.

- following the Master Guide for SAP ERP 6.0: "Each SAP ERP (or SAP NetWeaver) system landscape >must< be assigned to an installation of the SAP Solution Manager. SAP Solution Manager is the required platform to efficiently support the implementation and operation of your SAP application. As a prerequisite for support, SAP requires remote access to the SAP Solution Manager that hosts the affected system landscape."

Hi,

If you need a solution key, if you can generate the key in other SM, you can do the upgrade. But you must approve support packages via SM, so you'd better install a SM.

Hi! Thank you for your reply.

So you are saying that SM only does the 2 things you said. The upgrade procedure is the same as the procedure for old R/3?

Thanks!

Hi,

As already said, you need the Installation Key but if you have access to a SM some other place then you can proceed, but if you need to download SP´s (very common) or Enhancement Packages to import during upgrade then you need the SM installed.

In some point of time you will need SOLMAN and it is very fast to install so if you have the hardware go on and install it, in fact you will probably have enough time during prepare to run the installation.

Good Luck
