I have an error in smgw... I have been asked to investigate, but unsure what the problem maybe, and whether it is SAP Related...

Can anyone help??
I have checked all my connections in sm59 and they all work, with the exception of SAPJ2EE, which I didn't expect to work as it is not relevant to my system versions....
Hi,
If you analyse the error closely you see two things,
Location : which is SAP-Gateway on host sapxi01.fqdn
And the Error reason is : partner not reached .
So your message is not able to reach Gateway it seems.
Do you have a firewall configured,
do you get any other error, what is the scenario you are trying to test?
It may be a network problem or firewall but get a host of reply from the community, this is what i think!

Thank yor for your response.
I am a Basis Admin who also develops "interfaces" in XI.
These errors are generated in both SMGW and at operating system level (windows 2003). My technical team responsible for o/s passed the error onto me. All of our scenarios work in the clients, so it is not an issue there. We are just tryingto "tidy up" after completing install of our environments.
The messages are fairly recent, but are consistent and regular.
There is a firewall, but my technical team haven't changed anything recently and the error only started two weeks ago.
