ODBC auto login

Hello,

We're moving Crystal Reports to new server, simultaneously switching to a new version of CR XI from 8.5. Database server is working on Pervasive SQL Server v.10, and database is connected via ODBC, so on the new server I've created the same System DSNs as at old server. Reports are opening ok, however, getting a problem with a popup DB user prompt

every time when need to refresh data.

Login works - but how to avoid using it? Users are not supposed to enter this account credentials, and old server running CR 8.5 is not asking for that. Please advice if there is a way:

a) to avoid db logon popup;

b) to keep CR db account credentials within CR settings;

c) to keep DB connection persistent, so users don't have to login every time

they open CR.

Any help please? Not an expert in CR, but have to make a move for our customers.

Please re-post if this is still an issue to the Data Connectivity - Crystal Reports Forum or purchase a case and have a dedicated support engineer work with you directly

Have you made any progress on this issue? I have a similar issue where it's asking for a pervasive ID and password, and we would like to avoid that too.

Thanks for the suggestion, Joey and Shweta, I've upgraded CR XI to version 11.5.10.1263, but still experiencing the same problem with database logon. I've found that some people are having the same problem as posted in this thread: , but there is no solution offered.

Hi there,

Can you please state how you create the datasource?

Pervasive gives you a choice of two: Pervasive ODBC Client Interface and Pervasive Engine Interface. Please provide the workflow on how you create the DSN on the new server.

Thanks,

Hello Joey,

I'm using Pervasive ODBC Client Interface. First it is setup in the ODBC Data Source Administrator in System DSN tab - when you click on Configure and Test it results in successful connection - so I guess the DSNs are setup correctly.

Then I open Crystal Reports XI and open any .rpt file - it opens fine, however when I select Report - Refresh Database Data - it opens a dialog titled ODBC (RDO) where it has filled in Server and User ID fields, and blank Password field. When I enter the password for Pervasive DB account it works fine. I go to Database and select Log on or off the Server it shows me that it has established connection in Current Connections.

But it stays only for a session until Crystal Reports are closed. In older version of Crystal Reports 8.5 it was not requiring passwords on the same rpt files, so users wouldn't need to enter it. As I googled for solution, I found that there was a patch Update8x.exe, which was adding that feature to Crystal Reports 8.5. I'm curious if that was possible in XI version too.

Thanks,

Oleh

Hi Oleh,

There are two things that you should know. The first note might be important for you in terms of supportability. The second pertains to your question.

First and foremost, Pervasive 10 is not supported even by our newest release of Crystal Reports 2008. With the next level down, at CRXIr2 SP3, our supported platform shows that only Pervasive SQL 2000 and Pervasive SQL 8 are supported. Therefore, in regards to your question about patching, our Product Group does not release one because CRXI does not support them. You may wish to consider a database change given that our Product Group does not appear to support Pervasive at the present moment nor the fear future.

On the second note, you did not mention which version you have. CRXIr1 (Crystal Reports XI Release 1) is denoted by 11.0.0.xxxx and CRXIr2 (Crystal Reports XI Release 2) is denoted as 11.5.x.xxxx.

To the good news, I downloaded Pervasive 10 and tested it for you. I used my base platform as CRXIr2 with SP2 (11.5.8.826) and it looks like it does not have the issue that you are describing.

As such, I would suggest that you upgrade to at least CRXIr2 to a base minimum of SP2. If you have CRXIr1, the upgrade to CRXIr2 is free.

Hope that helps,

Joey

You need to manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI for one of the following reasons:

u2022 To verify that all Crystal Reports XI components have been completely removed prior to installing a later version of Crystal Reports.

u2022 To remove the remaining Crystal Reports XI components that have not been removed using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command (Start > Settings > Control Panel).

u2022 To remove the remaining Crystal Reports XI components that have not been removed using the Setup.exe file from Crystal Reports XI installation CD.

How do you manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI?

Resolution

Before getting started, uninstall Crystal Reports XI by launching the Setup.exe file from the installation CD or by using the 'Add/Remove Programs' command. If either of these methods fails to remove all Crystal Reports directories, files and registry keys, then continue with the resolution of this article.

==========

WARNING:

This resolution can be applied if Crystal Reports XI is the only software installed on the computer that uses the Business Objects directories, files and registry keys.

For example, Crystal Analysis, Crystal Enterprise and BusinessObjects Enterprise XI are applications that may share the same directories, files and registry keys.

Removing these directories, files and registry keys may cause other software to function incorrectly.

==========

1. To manually uninstall Crystal Reports XI, delete the following directories:

u2022 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0

u2022 C:\Program Files\Business Objects

====================

NOTE:

Do not remove the directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\Business Objects\3.0 if you have BusinessObjects Enterprise XI or Crystal Reports Server XI installed. These files are shared by both applications and removal of these files will cause Business ObjectsEnterprise XI and Crystal Reports Server XI to function incorrectly.

====================

2. Delete the following registry keys:

====================

WARNING:

The following resolution involves editing the registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall the Microsoft Windows operating system. Use the Registry Editor at your own risk.

HELP:

For information on how to edit the registry key, view the 'Changing Keys And Values' online Help topic in the Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).

RECOMMENDATION:

It is strongly recommended that you make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat on Win9x computers) before you edit the registry.

====================

u2022 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\

u2022 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports

u2022 HKEY_USERS\S-#-#-##-...-####\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports

(The number signs (#) represent a series of numbers that are different on each computer.)

====================

NOTE:

After making changes to the registry, restart the affected service or application as required.

Hope that helps!!

Regards,

Shweta
