Hi,

The classes and object type basicallly differ as follows:

Classes

1.Classes are used to classify a group of similar objects or equipments or F.Locations based on their specifications/attributes/capacities and charecterstics. The objects are usually of same design/construction but vary in size, shape, color, volume etc.. Their charecterstics only change.

Example of classes: vehicles, pumps, compressors, light fittings, any group of objects whose specifications differ slightly.

uses of classes: Detailed classification of objects and for searching equivalent equipments.

2. Object Type

Object type is used to differentiate objects within a equipment category. This facilitates detailed classification of equipments in one category. It also helps while searching objects of similar type.

Of the above two, the classes play a important role and is used extensively in Plant maintenance.

hi

For Classes if u define as Pumps

Define the characterics as related to manufacture specification and for measurement points or counters...

Then for object type...

U have to define the class as for equipment or material or for functional location etc...

U can define n no of object types...

Hi Dear,

Can you tell me which one is at higher hierarchy

Class or object type.

Is there is any connection with object type while defining class

or vice-versa.

Pithan,

I'm assuming Raju means the first two fields in the equipment header (standard equipment scren layout)

Dear PeteA & Pithan,

You are right i m talking about the class and object type in master data of equipment. Because these are very similar and i want clear prediction about these field ,hw they used practically.

But now i understood by yours explanation if you have some more about these, please explain in detail. please go through following.

1.Is it right while creating equipment catalog profile we used object type as a object.

2.How we can get reports from these field class and objet type.

Note :- I know class type is at the top hierarchy for class such material, equipment ,functional location & ,work centre etc ,this is clear to me.

Hw we can used these two in best way ?

Hi

I am not sure...

Is it required to create equipment catalog profile with object type ?

You can create the catalog profile at notifcation level OQN6

and then code and code groups at Tcode : QS41.

For object type u can differentiate various equipments Ex : high Pressure pumps etc....

You can get reports with the respective equipments

Use IH04 / IE07

For class CL6A / CT10 / CT11

hi

these are the purpose of classes

Grouping of similar products according to common characteristics

Class is used to structure the master data and to enable inheritance.

Quicker search for objects in the system

categorization based on characteristics / values

Evaluation based on classes

When u create class... give the name appro. Ex - u have many different kinds of pump in ur industry...

Create the class as pump...

and enter the values for diff types of pumps etc..

Hope so u can create various classes...
