which strategy to be used?

Former Member

Hi,

PS module is there. But for one product client wants a different strategy.

Client gets an order of say 1000 scanners to be manufactured.Client has to manufacture 300 in first 3 months, next 220 in next 3 months and 200 in next 3 months and 280 in next 3 months.

Customer can increase or decrease the demand in any quarter or can ask for some quantities in next 2 months say.

How to map this scenario? which strategy to be used? What extra is to maintained in material masters?

Regards,

Mohammad Arif.

Hi,

You can use Strategy - 40 (Planning with final assembly)

You give your requirements in MD61 based on the customer schedule as 300 for the first quarter, 220 in the second quarter and so on.

When there is a sale order, with an increase in the schedule qty, it gets adjusted in the next plaaning. Decrease in the sale order qty causes an increase in the plant stock whereby you can adjust in the production of the next period.

Check up with the foll link:

In Material master, in MRP-3 view, maintain 40 for startegy type.

Hope this helps..

Hi Thaila Shree,

Thanks for your reply.

Now when I discussed with the client, he is telling that the order they get in the start of the year say on 2nd January order comes for 1000 quantity to be supplied throughout one year.

Now they plan for production say 200 quanitity to be delivered in the end of March. They will manufacture and not keep it as stock. means they will produce and deliver to customer. Next demand from customer can be 450( out of same 1000 quantity) quantity to be fimished in 1.5 months.

Going on this way all 1000 quantities can be produced in 1 year span of time.

Please advice can I go with strategy 10 or strategy 20.

Mohammad Arif.

Hi

Dont maintain any strategy. Plan through PS. Create monthwise/quarterwise WBS element, assign the mat code and qty. Run MRP MD51. System will create planned order wrt WBS. Go ahead with production. Final Gr will bring the stock with WBS. Delivery u can do through PS as well as through SD.

Hi,

Actually to the client I have told to maintain strategy 10 in finished as well as semi finished material master.

Will it be a problem if i dont remove that strategy 10 and continue to run MRP and produce goods?

Thanks,

Mohammad Arif.

Hi,

In this case, if the qty for the period is decided during the sale order stage, you can use strategy 20 (Production based on Sale order - MTO)

If the qty split up is entered in the production stage, use strategy 10(Make to stock) and make delivery to Sale order from stock.

Check the requirement with the client. But you have to edit the change in qty if there is any.

Hi Thaila Shree,

Can you please throw some more light on how to do ( in SAP) quantity split during production stage?

Thanks,

Mohammad Arif.

Hi,

In MD61, with the period indicator as "M" - Months, enter qty for the required month and run MRP to get Production orders for the requird months.
