"Error description: The system boxi6 can be contacted, but there is no Central Management Server running at port 6400."

I am trying to configure BOXI R2 SP3 so that it disregards the system's hostname, and allows me to point it at another DNS name that is also associated with a virtual IP on the same server. I have gotten every other configuration point, but am continually stuck on this.

In other words, I want it to not look at "boxi6" which is the hostname, and instead have it look at "boxivip".

I understand this is "not supported" but want to try anyways.

Now unable to get the Input/Output File Repository Servers working:

I cannot click on these inside CMC to edit the root directory. How can this be accomplished from command line?

Well in my case I only needed the setting fro login (CMS)

I'd assume something similar will be needed for reporting servers, FRS, etc

And actually, you need to change -port for every service using this parameter (mainly the CMS, I/O FRS and RAS) as DNS is generally involved in configuration with routers and firewalls:

 

Please find below a complete configuration of the server I got up and running at a certain point (please forgive the frenchness of some parameters).
 

-port parameter has to use the FQDN. This has to be added/changed for the CMS, IFRS, OFRS and RAS

-ns has to be changed for every services, except the MDAS and Search Engine of the Productivity Pack (MDAS: wrapper.app.parameter.5="bo.ranselin.test" / Search: (u2026)-ns;bo.ranselin.test(u2026))

It is not necessary to modify the u2013name parameter

Server name: vfr-ranse-test1 (WORKGROUP)

DNS name used: bo.ranselin.test (This is only a DNS name, the XIr2 server is named as stated above and is not required to be in a Windows AD domain or anything like that)

Thanks for the input Tim -- I actually just figured out that the problem was my Input/Output servers were misconfigured in ccm.config.

For some reason, though, I can't figure out why I can't change the name of the Input/Output servers. They are still both referencing the name of the old hostname:

Input.oldmachine

Whereas all of my other servers are named correctly.

Also, the "Machine Name" listed for each server is still configured to the physical server name. I see no reason for this to be the case. Where is this configuration located?

How do I supply a CMS name on startup?

I currently start as such:

./ccm.sh -start cms

or

./ccm.sh -start all

I think this can be done if you specify in the command line -port serveralias:port

(i.e. if my server was myserver:6400 and I wanted to use a DNS alias of myfake:6400 then I'd specify that as the -port option in the CMS command line and it should work. I tested this on windows but never nix, should work the same I think.
