Oracle 10.2 installation on SAP box

Hi,

We are doing a migration of our sap system to an advanced server. Sap is currently running on oracle 9.2.

In my new server, i have installed oracle 10.2 from SAP database CD's. However, there is one issue. After

extracting the SAR files in sap database cds i got the below file in database directory.

total 38

drwxr-xr-x 2 oraapq dba 1024 Feb 22 2006 SAP

drwxrwxr-x 9 oraapq dba 1024 Jan 27 2006 doc

drwxr-xr-x 4 oraapq dba 1024 Feb 7 2006 install

drwxr-xr-x 2 oraapq dba 1024 Feb 7 2006 response

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 1363 Feb 7 2006 runInstaller

drwxrwxr-x 8 oraapq dba 7168 Feb 7 2006 stage

-rw-rw-r-- 1 oraapq dba 5267 Jan 27 2006 welcome.html

I used the above installer and go ahead with the installation which went fine.

Now i see another RUNINSTALLER in database/SAP directory as below.

coles35a 43: ls -l SAP

total 378

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 2507 Feb 22 2006 CHECKS.SQL

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 227 Feb 22 2006 MIG3264.SQL

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 226 Feb 22 2006 POSTMIG.SQL

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 2735 Feb 22 2006 POST_UPGRADE.SQL

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 233 Feb 22 2006 PREMIG.SQL

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 12943 Feb 22 2006 RUNINSTALLER

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 2454 Feb 22 2006 SAP.SQL

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 2448 Feb 22 2006 SAPI.SQL

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 38114 Feb 22 2006 SVRCUSTOM.RSP

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 1634 Feb 22 2006 sapconn_role.sql

-rwxr-xr-x 1 oraapq dba 123806 Feb 22 2006 utlu102i.sql

Could you suggest if there would be any issue with the runinstaller that I used when we move the sap instance? If so, what should be done now ?

Regards,

Sandeep.

RUNINSTALLER uses a response file to install the database with settings that are proved to be "best suited" for the instance. If you did install it manually you need to adjust all parameters yourself.

Did you install the database when you were requested by sapinst?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Its a new box and i have installed oracle 10.2 instance seperately. In the old box, we had installed oracle 10.2 previously and had upgraded our sap database to 10.2

Could you let me know would there be a problem when we move the sap / database to the new box because of this installation.

What parameters i have to adjust since i did not use the /database/SAP/RUNINSTALLER.

Please suggest..

Regards,

Sandeep.

it might work, but you probably are not using SAP/Oracle paths.

I highly advise you to uninstall your installation, then, your RUNISTALLER.

this will take you less than 1 hour and will make sure everything is fine.

You might have different parameter settings.

I would recommend (as already suggested but additionally):

- uninstall the current installation

- install the database when requested by sapinst, not before your start the SAP installation

- use RUNINSTALLER to install the base version of the database

- update to the latest patchset (10.2.0.4)

- install the latest interim patches

and then press on "OK" in the sapinst button and proceed with your system copy.
