Hi all,

I have installed SAP WAS was on the following machine.

Intel P4

2.4 GHz

1 GB RAM

40 GB Hdd.

Kernel Memmory(k)

Total is 62960

paged is 44740

nonpaged 18256

I access the portal from a remote machine through following link,

<a href="http://bhardwaj:50000http://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/portal">http://bhardwaj:50000http://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/portal</a>

Now, when i access the portal from a remote machine, the login and logoff is very very slow, it takes much more time than expected, also in <u><b>'USER ADMINISTRATION'</b></u> when i search for a particular user, and click on the <u><b>EDIT</b></u> button in the grid,it is heights, even more time than login and log off, and after that when i try to save the changes there, same thing happens, it takes lots and lotsa time.

Till Yesterday it was working fine.

Experts, please help, any tuning that needs to be done at the server lever, any changes in server parameters?

Regards

Bhardwaj.

Hi Saurabh,

what installation do you have? A full installation or the "Slim Java Edition"?

For you write "Till Yesterday it was working fine" it is hard to determin remotely what has changed... 😐

Anyhow, if your installation is <i>not</i> the "Slim Java Edition", 1 GB RAM is definitely a problem, independent from any settings.

Hope it helps

Hi Bhardwaj,

"stupid answer" - ask him

For I have never installed a slim edition, I don't know how it looks like / how to identify.

Hi Detlev,

The installation is "SAP Sneak Preview" that has been downloaded from the SAP site.

Yesterday, the server was a little slow but now its absolutely down. In the SAP Management Console, till yesterday i was able to see 2 instances, but today when i opened <b>SAPMMC</b> there is nothing in it,no instances, nothing at all. The server is not running. Kindly help me experts, Please tell me where all what log files to look in order to find out what happened. Kindly also send me the <b>path</b> to local log files. The OS is windows XP.

Also, if there are any good links to any litreature about SAP portal Administration (i.e how to view the logs, how to do performance tuning, how to see various feature of the portal server) kindly let me know.

Plz help.

Hi Bhardwaj,

> SAP Sneak Preview" that has been

So, the question is still open, for there are two different sneak previews, the slim and the full installation.

The central log file for the server is to be found under C:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\j2ee\cluster\server0\log (the default.X.trc files).

For the admin guide and especially for logging, see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/9d/9f173f5ff48443e10000000a114084/frameset.htm and around.

Hope it helps

hi,

This could just be a network issue. Please check if you face the same issue with other Portals installed in the

same domain or network.

Are there some changes you made to the settings like enabling trace etc. If not i do not see a reason why it could go slow.

Also try a fully qualified domain name for the Portal you are using to access like

http://p12345.sap.corp:50000/irj
