Hello SAP men,
I am preparing the installation of SAP Solution Manager 7.0 to change our 3.2 old version.
We are going to make a "from scratch" installation ; no upgrade of the old one.
But I am a little bit surprised : it seems to be mandatory to install a Java stack in add-in of the ABAP stack.
It seems to have something to do with the Diagnostics Agent.
That is what I understood in the SAP Installation Guide but it is not very clear...
Could someone tell me :
- is it really mandatory to installa the Java stack even if we get no Java instance on our landscape ?
- what is exactly the Diagnostics Agent ?
- all information you thing to be important for my new installation ?
Many thanks for your precious help !

Yes. The SolMan installation is a combined one, you can´t leave the Java part out.

You can, however, disable the start of the Java instance by putting
rdisp/j2ee_start_control = 0
rdisp/j2ee_start = 0
in the instance profile after the installation. This will save you memory.
