Difference Between SDM Deployment and NWDI

HI Everyone,

We have a portal landscape running in our project ,we deploy all our ear files through via SDM server. I just came across NWDI where we have a version control in it.

Just curious on what is the advantage of NWDI over SDM, as we often face a lot of issues with SDM.

How does NWDI be a better choice over SDM , and its benefits ?

It would be great if anyone can share the configuration details and pre requisites of NWDI.

I hope there could be couple of documentation be done on it.

Regards,

Raj

Hi

NWDI has version control tool DTR .

Dont think NWDI is alternative to SDM.

NWDI is prefeered method when comparing with development in NWDS.

If you want to deploy any support packages and system components , you should use SDM or JSPM.

NWDI is used for version control and organized transporting system of webdynpro develepoment component projects ,

you can use it to customize ess and mss

Took from help sap :

The Software Deployment Manager (SDM) is a tool with which you can manage and deploy software packages (Software Deployment Archives (SDAs) and Software Component Archives (SCAs)) that you receive from SAP.

The Converter tool for SDM will generate a J2EE Engine 6.40-compatible EAR file that contains all necessary components and deployment descriptors. You can later deploy that EAR on the J2EE Engine 6.40 by using the Deploy Tool.

We recommend that you use the Converter Tool first to create EAR files that are deployable on the J2EE Engine 6.40, and then redeploy your applications.

For NWDI see : http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/d6/772240da03e569e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
