Let me begin by saying I am NOT a programmer.
I have about 2500 pdf files I need to upload (does not have to be done all at once). I currently post documents of this nature to a folder called "New Documents" on CR.com using Publish To Crystal Reports.
Because of the sheer volume I need to be able to capture the document ID once it has been loaded onto CR.com to a file containing the file name and the document ID. We then use the document IDs as part of a hyperlink in reports so that end-users can view a particular document referenced in a report.
Wondering if anyone else has a utility that they have used to do something similar or if someone could give me good SIMPLE instructions on how to achieve this.
Thank you.
Hi Dixie,
Currently, there is no tool/application that would perform the functionality that you need.
It may be possible in the future, when the product releases auditing features or the ability to audit to create and identify all document names and document IDs but nothing specific to a tool that would do batch jobs to CRDC or an application that will publish large number of reports to crystalreports.com (CRDC) while capturing the document name and document ID.
As far as mapping a drive is concerned, assuming that gaining access to the hard drive of the CRDC server were available (which it is not) this is not possible because when loading the report to the file structure of CRDC server environment, the document name and document IDs are created as the same time as file structure is created, the file structure reflects the document ID which contains a single report object within the CRDC server environment, the only method of creating these items would be with the Desktop Publisher (publishing to CRDC) or directly within CRDC space (uploading a report object to CRDC).
Now, the only Web Service API that I know of is specific to SalesForce.com, I'm have not seen any other API or SDK solution available for CRDC, but if it does exist, I would be interested in learning about it.
I hope that helps,
Thank & Kind Regards,
Mario

Hello,
I should have included this link in my original reply.
https://boc.sdn.sap.com/betas/crdcapi
This link will take you to the page describing the cr.com web service api that I was refering to. There is also a little sample app there to help get things started.
It lets you programmatically log into cr.com and get objects and add new objects.
Best of luck,
Steve
I've been told that if I can map a drive on my desktop to the folder containing the pdf files -- that I can be helped. How do I achieve this?

Hi Dixie,
There is a web service on crystalreports.com that would allow you to write a program (say in java or .net) to do what you want to do, but I don't know of any other way to solve your problem.
The desktop publisher does allow you to upload a folder of documents rather than just a single document, but that will not tell you what the object ids are inside the crystalreports.com system.
I don't see how mapping a drive will help you at all as that does not connect you to crystalreports.com.
Cheers,
Steve
