Hi Experts,
While creating a PO system threws error message like" GL a/c needs cost object assignment".
Some experts were saying that assign your cost element to profit center in OKB9 and others saying that assign your cost center in cost element master data under account assignment tab. Technically which one is correct?
Looking forward your comments
adv thanks

Hi
Cost object assignments can be done by default from the master record of the GL or you can define automatic cost object assignments through OKB9.
The default assignment through the master is not that flexible in that you can create a cost element and assign a cost centre or order to it.
Whereas through automatic assignment you have the flexibility of assigning a cost object such as cost centre, order, profit centre etc. based on a combination of your company code, cost element and/or business area specifications the same cannot be made through default account assignment.
So you can decide which option suiting to you as per your business requirement.

Hi Friend,
It is depending upon your client's requirement whether it wants to allocate such cost to Cost Center or Profitability segment.
If so then you can assign the cost object accordingly. if you want to allocate such cost to Cost Center then simply you can assign the cost element to cost center in OKB9 settings or alternatively, in Cost Element Master data, assign Cost Center in Account Assignment Tab.
