Changing account types

My customer has realised after posting 150K worth transactions, that an expense account should has been marked as "Other"

When we try to change the account type to "Expense" the system shows a warning , and allows the change also.

My question is, how will the older transactions be affected when this change is made ?

If you read the warning carefully, you will know the consequence. Generally speaking, whenever these kinds of setting change, the consistence of history will be very difficult or even impossible to maintain. However, the early change is a good thing. It is better than if you find it many months later.

To reduce the impact, try to run all kinds of query and reports to see if anything need to be changed to make the data as clean as possible.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hi Somchitra

The Income/Expense/Other field will not adversely affect your history at all. This is more an indicator field and is used in certain listings, groupings, etc. You can go ahead and change it, although it is advisable to get the field settings, types, etc. right before going live on a project.

Kind regards
