Hello All,

Please let me know if we can install SAP on Opensuse.

Does Opensuse have all the components required for installing SAP?

Regards,

Pradeep

Let me see,

If you want to install it for you, to practice, play around, etc, etc. It may be technically possible.

If you want to install it for real, no.

You must install it only on the supported platforms.

You can find information about the supported platforms [here|]

Hi Fidel Vales,

Thanks for the reply. I was actually trying to install the sap for playing around.

Can you suggest me which version of Linux would be most suitable for this [Free versions].

Thanks,

Pradeep

Hi,

I do not think there is one "more" suitable.

Personally, I would go for [CentOS|www.centos.org].

It is a 100% clone of REDHAT, compatible and so on.

RetHat is a supported platform, so you can follow the SAP instructions and recommendations for this OS.

Other distributions, like opensuse, may work, but you are prone to find little (or big) issues here and there.

Hi Pradeep

I have tried installing Sap Solutions manager on OPEN Suse 11. Got different errors and due to some urjency i moved to suse ent linux 10.

You can techinically try that but need to take care about following steps:

Before starting installation:

1. Install SAP LOCALES

2. If it is 64 bit OS get IBM java (SUN java will not supported by SAPInst for x86_64 bit)

After installing java check #java -version to make sure it is mapping to IBM's one. coz Open SUSE will come with latest java/jre

3. Make sure you have static ip instead of DHCP configuration

4. Dont run SAPInst from Inst_Master CD/DVD folder

5. Create a dir called install under /tmp

6. Make sure you have swap space 3 times to your ram.

And

  1. cd /tmp/install

#./<ur sapinst dir>/SAPInst

Hope this helps

Some times Oracle Universal installer will not come up with GUI even though you set display env variable...

By default Oralce universal installer provided with SAPsoftware will not support open suse. you need to change config file to trust ur suse os.

then instead of SU try #ssh -X ora<sid>@<youripaddress>

Hope this helps..

Thank you guys for replying.

Can you guys help me in downloading the required files from the portal?

There are many files that need to be downloaded. I could not get the information for SUSE on SDN.

Note: I have a 32 bit computer.

Pradeep

Hi Pradeep,

check the installation guide from https://service.sap.com/instguides and check the documents for Installation for Unix. They apply for Linux as well. There you'll find the list of media you need from https://service.sap.com/swdc

Thanks,

Hannes

hi pradeep,

here linux distros list officially supported by SAP :

Novell / SUSE:

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 for x86, x86_64, IPF, IBM iSeries, IBM pSeries and IBM zSeries

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 for x86, x86_64, IPF, IBM iSeries, IBM pSeries and IBM zSeries

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 for x86, IPF and IBM zSeries (out of maintenance)

SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 7 for IA32 and IBM zSeries (out of maintenance)

SuSE Linux Enterprise Server for IA32 (out of maintenance)

Red Hat:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 for x86, x86_64, IPF, IBM iSeries, IBM pSeries and IBM zSeries

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 for x86, x86_64, IPF, IBM iSeries and IBM pSeries

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 for x86 and IPF

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 for x86

Red Hat Linux 7.1 Professional (out of maintenance)

Red Hat Linux 6.2 (out of maintenance)

Red Hat Linux 6.1 Enterprise Version 1.0 (out of maintenance)

This list are for production installation. Other distros than this might work but not officially supported by SAP.

I personally believe that SAP ECC5 can be installed on OpenSuSE 11.

hope this could help.
