Lead Time in Item Master

Dear All,

Am trying to understand the use of Lead Time field in the Item Master Data --> Planning Tab. I feel the use of this field is to specify the Lead Time required in Making/Procuring that particular item. This lead time should be considered while taking the MRP run. However, the lead time specified in the Item Master does not have any implication in the MRP run.

If anyone knows the proper use of this field, please help me out.

Regards,

Ammheya

from help on help.sap.com

Lead Time Enter the number of days from when the item is ordered to when the item is received or produced.

Example

If the lead time is for three days, the MRP will issue the purchase or production order for the child items with a due date that is three days prior to the due date for the parent item

Hi Makarand

The use of lead times is impacted by things like your planning horizon. If you plan in weeks or months and your lead times are a few days, then it is possible that you will not notice much in the MRP. However, if the lead time to produce an item is 3 days and you are planning the item daily, then you will notice a change in the due date proposed for the production order.

Hope this helps

Kind regards
