Hi,

A variant BOM describes the specific product variant for each product, with all its components and assemblies.

If you are producing several similar products that have a lot of common parts, you can describe these products using a variant BOM. This is the case, for example, if you replace one material component with another to make a different product. Variants can also differ by containing different quantities of a component. You create the new BOM as a variant of an existing BOM.

You can only create a variant BOM from a simple material BOM. No multiple BOM can exist for the material.

see the link also

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/a0/1016bd4c8311d189520000e829fbbd/frameset.htm.

The BOM having object dependency are comes under super BOM and without object dependency are comes under material BOM which use in varient configuration..

Goto CS02--Extra --Object dependency.

Super BOM's are mainly used in Variant Configuration.

The bill of material (BOM) of a configurable material contains all the components that are required to manufacture the material. The BOM contains components that are only used in specific variants (variant parts), as well as components that are used in all variants (non-variable parts). This is why BOMs for configurable materials are known as super BOMs.

We need to maintain the object dependicies for the components in the Super BOM.

Configuration part is not there for Super BOM, it is special BOM which is mainly used in Variant Configuaration. For better understanding first understand the concept of Variant configurtion

Hi Jeyaraman ,

Variant BOM is used If you are producing several similar products that have a lot of common parts, you can describe these products using a variant BOM. This is the case, for example, if you replace one material component with another to make a different product. Variants can also differ by containing different quantities of a component. You create the new BOM as a variant of an existing BOM.

e.g : BOM of A has B , c and D as components and BOM of X has B , C and F that means many components are same . In this situation create X as Variant of A .

Please refer SAP help for creating variant BOM

http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/ea/e9b9164c7211d189520000e829fbbd/frameset.htm

BOM in variant conf is Super BOM which has all the possible components or assy required for making various product .The bill of material (BOM) of a configurable material contains all the components that are required to manufacture the material. The BOM contains components that are only used in specific variants (variant parts), as well as components that are used in all variants (non-variable parts).
