Hi
Can we carry out production using alternate unit of measure? I think its not possible, please confirm the above.
Can we have a stock keeping unit which is different from the base unit of measure? is yes where does the conversion(base unit of measure to stock keeping unit) take place

Hi
I think the base unit is stock keeping unit.
And you can use the production unit setting the production unit of work scheduling view and the conversion factor in the material master.

Hi,
Stock keeping unit is your base unit of measurment.
A unit of measure that is defined in the SAP system in addition to the base unit of measure. For example, the base unit of measure might be "pallet" while the alternative unit might be "carton".
A unit of measure defined in the SAP system in addition to the base unit of measure.
Examples of alternative units of measure are:
o Order unit (purchasing)
o Sales unit
o Unit of issue
As well as Production Unit can be different.which we maintain in work scheduling view.
Since all data is updated in the base unit of measure, your entry is particularly important for the conversion of alternative units of measure. A quantity in the alternative unit of measure can only be shown precisely if its value can be shown with the decimal places available.
o The base unit of measure is the unit satisfying the highest
necessary requirement for precision.
o The conversion of alternative units of measure to the base unit
should result in simple decimal fractions (not, for example, 1/3 = 0.333)
Unit of measure in which stocks of the material are managed. The system converts all the quantities you enter in other units of measure (alternative units of measure) to the base unit of measure.
Hope clear to you.

If you have repitative manufacturing senario then in the routing of material you have to maintain operation unit which in this case yours is alt unit and apply conversion factor in detail screen of operation.

Can we carry out production using alternate unit of measure?
Look on the Material Master Record Work Scheduling view - Production Unit (MARC-FRTME). The UoM entered here is the UoM expected for the GR of the production/process order yield. It must be defined in the Additional data > Units of Measure tab - also on the Material Master Record.
Can we have a stock keeping unit which is different from the base unit of measure? Of course - see the Additional data > Units of Measure tab in the Material Master Record for the intended material.
In fact, you have the following Units of Measure as 'standard available UoMs' providing that you define them in that Units of Measure tab (in addition to the base UoM): Production Unit (as discussed above), Unit of issue (Work Scheduling + Plant data / stor 1 + more), Warehouse Management UoM (WM1), Unit of measure for loading equipment (WM2), Sales unit (Sales: sales org.1), Order Unit (Purchasing view), and this does not even venture into Proportional / Product Quantity Units of Measure.
Take a look at transaction CUNI to see all the Units of Measure available to you.
Hope this answers your question.
