buying wrong version or crystal

We have a piece of software that allows custom reporting within the software if you have crystal version 9.0 If you have a later version of Crystal, you can still customize a report but it has to be done outside the software.

Therefore we are leaning towards getting Crystal version 9.0. If we later find we need Crystal 2008 is there any way we can exchange the license or would we need to pay for an upgrade license?
