Update Application on NWA

Hi,

We are trying to update a application on our customer. We need to update the application on all pockets.

On NWA, Mobile Infrastructure -> Device Maintenance, some users are registred in several pockets, so to update these users´s pockets, we are associating to update "For all Devices" of these users.

But, when we sincronize to this users, the application isn´t updated. But, if we do the process by Device ID this works successfully.

We are using NW 7.0 - SP14. Any idea?

Thanks,

Bruno

Hi,

it seems you are using the old technologie stll. In that case you need to go that route.

In the new technolgie you could build device configurations, and in there you could change this assignment - but actually while using the old way, you have to go the log way.

On the other hand - what app are you using? Usually SAP says that their apps should only be deployed on one device for a specific user, otherwise you end up in some problems.

Oliver

Hi Bruno,

Please check if you have implemented note 1081782 in your MI Server. If this note is not yet implemented, then kindly implement the same which in turn might resolve your problem.

@Oliver: I slightly disagree with your views made above. So far i am not aware, where and how SAP has officially documented that the above combination is not supported combination for SAP apps. We definitely support the following

one user -> one app -> multiple device

multiple users -> one app -> one device

multiple users -> multiple app -> one device and the list goes on and this is valid for both SAP and non SAP apps. If the same set of data is sent to same user on multiple devices, and if both of them are modified, the server will take care of conflict and resolves them accordingly.

Best Regards

Hi Oliver,

We change our mobile customer administration and now we´re using device configuration.

Thanks for attention.

Sivakumar,

Is it necessary to apply this note? We are in NW7.0 - SP14.

Thanks.

Hi Oliver,

We created a Device Configuration to a ADD-ON. But this ADD-ON is necessary to install only on Windows XP Device. On Condition Tab, We put the condition JVM - Sun.

Otherwise, when we synchronize on Pocket PC Device, this ADD-ON is installed too. I looked for, but i didn´t find a solution.

Any idea?

Hi Oliver,

We developed a application.

So... SAP says that a user can´t to be registred on more than a device? A device must to be only user registred?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

well, not really, sorry for the confusion. SAP says this for their own apps, like MAM. One device, one user. And one user only one device - that is the SAP rule for MAM for example.

The reason: on one hand SAP stores the relation between user and device in a DB - but off course you can use the app on more then one device wth a single user.

The bigger issue is the problem when you run into data conflicts. If a user changes a dataset on one device and then the same set of data on a second device and syncs afer this, you most likely run into data problems.

But still, off course you can use an app on more then one device with the same user. Lets say he uses a Laptop and a PDA - makes totally sence, is possible. Only SAP says for their Apps it is not recommended.

Oliver
