Storage locations

Hi,

Can anyone tell how many storage locations maximum can create for a plant.Why do have 'N' of storage locations for a MATERIAL TYPE why not unique storage location across all MATERIAL TYPE.

A storage location is an organizational unit that allows you to differentiate between various types of stock in a site.

Use

Stocks of an article can be managed within a site in different storage locations to differentiate, for example, between the stock stored for returns, promotions and cross-docking. Storage locations are intended to represent warehouses or areas in a warehouse.

To reflect the complex warehouses that are typical in retailing, each storage location can be divided into warehouse numbers, storage types and storage bins using the Warehouse Management System. Storage locations are then used to represent areas in a warehouse. This differentiation between stocks is therefore of most relevance to distribution centers.

If stock is to be managed on an article basis, storage locations must be used.

Stocks of an article can be managed within a site in different storage locations to differentiate, for example,

- between the stock stored for returns,

- promotions and

- cross-docking.

Same material type can be stored in many storage locations. For example, the finished goods (FERT) from a refinery are many like Diesel, MS, Coal tar, etc. All needs to be identified by different Storage locations for physical inventory purpose.

Finally, all this depends on your Customer requirement.

Hi,

There is no limit for the No. Of storage location to be created under a plant.

You can create Storage locations based on your Material Types

Like Raw material, Finished goods, Semi Finished goods, Packing Materials, Consumables, Promo items, Non Valuated items, Scrap items etc,..
