Dear Sirs,

Just like we can define text for line items using OB56, is there a way to define texts in assignment field?

But I wanted the user to use options defined by me.

Sort key will give pre defined SAP options.

To be more specific - When making customer entry, I wanted the user to use the assignment option to insert whether the customer is from North, South or East or West and thus use it for analysis.

I was avoiding to make different customer recon accounts area-wise.

This will be possible by ABAP development only, you can transfer any values thru development,

Assignment field is nothing but reflection of sort key

If you want change sort key as like assignment field will come to change

So change or create new sort key as u want that effect will on assignment feild

Text in assignment fields are actual field values from data base tables. By default there are lot of options for field values available. Your requirement would be met from any of those values.
