What to think of when revising ALL Material Groups

We went live in 4.0 and have added many companies and business to our system. We are now in 5.0.

The Material Group on Material Master, Basic Data has been used for a variety of groupings by the various businesses Now the data is inconsistent and meaningless. 70% are OTHER.

I am working on a project to create new Material Groups to represent COMMODITIES for the Supply Chain, The aim is to repopulate the field for all materials.

We do not use it for pricing or for release strategies.

What other things should I think about before proceeding?

check the authorization is based on that or not?

and any custom report which use the mateiral group and if you any other system like APO or BW than you shoud verify for that also.
