Resource Scheduling tab formula question

Former Member

Hi Gurus,

I understand that in scheduling tab of the resource we define the capacity category and key, whose operating time will be used in scheduling.

My question is why we need to specify a formula in scheduling time as well?

Shouldn't it be the same as in the capacity tab?

Or the system gives us a possibility to have different formulas for capacity requirements and scheduling? But is there a business case which will use such settings?

Can you give an example if possible?

Thanks in advance,

Artashes

Hi,

You may have different formulas depending on whats your bottolneck resource in terms of Capacity & Scheduling.

Again, If you have Operation split / Operation Overlapping, your capacity requirement may remain same but your scheduling would surely change as the Processing time has been split.

You may take a look at [Operation Split, Operation Overlap|http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/7e/d419b7455911d189400000e8323c4f/frameset.htm].

Also see [Work Center Formula|http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/b1/c0392e439a11d189410000e829fbbd/frameset.htm].

Eg. A work center has 2 machines to process the job and it is possible to split the operation, the Capacity & Scheduling requirement would be as follows (assuming that both the machines are identical):

Capacity : Setup * 2 (2 - since the set-up has to be done twice (Setup * Operation splits)) + Processing Time ( Machine * Operation quantity / Base qty)

Scheduling : Set-up time + Processing Time / 2 (Machine * Operation quantity / Base qty / Operation splits)

Hence, the need to have different formulas.

Sandeep

Hi,

Please try to understand the difference bet. scheduling and capacity requirements formula.

the formula for scheduling calculate the lead time of an operation while the formula for capacity calculates the capacity requirements to be generated for carring out the operations.

Hope the difference is clear.

Thanks & Regards,
