Hi Kumar,

If the message appears only intermittently and - as seems to be the case in your system - the observed delay is short (like the 5 seconds in the dev_disp trace in your reply), then the best thing is simply to ignore the message. Deactivating it is not possible (see note 525900). If on the other hand you have persistent long DNS response times, then you should look at the measures explained in note 124562. Slow or non-responding servers in the DNS resolution chain are often the issue in situations like that.

Hi,

The error "R05 No active session available"

is due to the task handler looking for an active mode in

the 'mode chain' and not finding one. This can be due to a kernel problem or on some type of network problem where a session is terminated externally but the internal WP/task handler is unaware.

Try updating your kernel patch level as you are on a very low level.

Best regards,

Warren

Hi Kumar,

You should be able to find more information in the dispatcher trace (/usr/sap/<SID>/DVEBMGS<xx>/work/dev_disp). As the message is written during instance startup, the most likely cause is the one described in note 525900. In kernel versions >= 46D/1078 (also in higher kernels), the dispatcher will do a "quick and dirty" test of DNS functionality:

- Host to address resolution of a non-existent host

- Address to host resolution of a non-existent address

The dummy IP address used for test (2) is always 1.0.0.0. The dummy host name is of the form www.doesnotexist.qqq.nxst or www.doesnotexist####.qqq.nxst where "####" is a random 4-digit suffix. If the DNS lookup does not react to the dispatcher's liking (e.g. takes a long time to respond), then the message GZZ is written to the system log and the dispatcher trace. If DNS causes a long wait, then the dispatcher is blocked while waiting for the lookup to return. During this time no requests are serviced, hence the "queue standstill" and the long time to get the logon screen.

If the DNS check is indeed the cause, then dev_disp will contain messages like the following:

WARNING => DpNetCheck: NiHostToAddr(www.doesnotexist.qqq.nxst) took

160 seconds

WARNING => DpNetCheck: NiAddrToHost(1.0.0.0) took 80 seconds

LOG GZZ=> 2 possible network problems detected - check tracefile and adjust your DNS settings

Rgds,

Mark
