Hi Guys, my company has started implementing MDM as a central repository for MD - We have 26 bottling countries within Coca Cola Hellenic and now two years later, we are still nowhere. Can somebody summarize for me the pros and cons for MDM. Any impressions will be mucha appreciated, as we are trying to decide on whether to continue or freeze the project, as the tool offered is not developed well yet. Any good consultants in the area?

HI,

With he information you provided, it's very difficult to assess if the root cause for your project difficulties lies solely with the product. There are various aspect related to Master Data Management - and any MDM should not just be an IT driven project. I would suggest you to take a step back and re-assess the project and determine the appropriate actions from there. Why are you still stuck after two years ? What is the root-cause for this ? Can yuo scope down your project aspirations to ensure you get at least something out of it quickly ? A lot of options.

Hi Teodora,

Consolidating Master Data across different Landscape is always a challenging task .But once its implemented the Entire IT infrastructure total cost can be reduced upto 70% You know that enterprise software is changing. You still need to ensure that day-to-day operations are reliable, secure, and scalable. How do you prepare your IT landscape for the future while responding to the pressures of today? SAP MDM is the foundation for implementing such kind of IT landscape, it helps you from the core level to map Business Process end to end . By doing so, It helps you to leverage the business process.

Data Standardization, one of the most important issues to be addressed is well handled by MDM.Since SAP MDM is so good from Integration stand point; itu2019s the best in the current Market. Please go through the link below. You will find how companies have successful implemented SAP.

Drawbacks : Finding the Methodology(which is not fixed for any SAP MDM Implementatoion) that applies to a business is a tough task. IT takes lot of effort and time to analyze how Master Data works. Also current SAP MDM doesnu2019t address some needs.

Thanks,

Felix

Hi Teodora,

It is true that the presesnt available versions of MDM are not very stable but still can be used to meet the basic requiremnets of consolidation and harmonization fairly well.

SAP is coming up with the latest version of MDM7.1 in nov which is believed to be much more stable than the earlier vesrion and also has overcomed all the previous vs instability problem.besides it also has many new features which makes integration an ease and master data management a success.

You can go through the below link to undesratnd the MDM7.1 capabilities better.:

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d0d0b0e7-f144-2b10-17a2-982103c9...

As at this stage it would be best to use MDM as a centarl Data Hub which stores master data centrally. You can use MDM for three main purposes without much difficulty Consolidation, Governanace using MDM workflows and Harmonisation.

A third part tool can be used for handling data cleansing and Data quality it the master data are in ver bad shape and MDM is some how not able to handle it.

If the master data coming from the sources systems are not too diversified and can be validated in MDM then MDM features like Validation assignments and Workflows acan take care of iit.

Hope it helped

Thanks & Regards
