workflow is vanishing after creation

Hi,

using MDM 5.5 SP6.

I'm connecting via the rich clients from my desktop pc th the server.

Visio is installed locally.

Visio enhancement / plugin is installed.

I'm just trying to get to know the workflows. So far everything ist fine. Found some nice descriptions and "how-to"s about the topic.

Nevertheless - the problem I came across today puzzles me now for some hours.

How come that some of the workflows (in fact most) disappear after creation?

So what do I do?

- having a validation rule created

- adding a new workflow

- giving name and code and description

- designing the workflow with viso - refering to the validation rule

- rule looks like: start - process - validation - approve - stop

- pressing the save button!

- closing visio

- trying to apply the workflow to some records for testing

- then - the context menu - "add to job" is greyed out - there is no workflow available

- back to the workflow table - "here it is"

- pressing the viso button (the trhee dots)

- visio opens - but empty...

So what do I do wrong?

Is the workflow file supposed to be saved at a special place on my hard drive?

Maybe someone can give a hint...

Thank you in advance

Martin

Hi Martin,

I also faced a same issue. First create a workflow with the default settings i.e. dont even give the name let it be New Workflow. Open the visio and create a simple workflow i.e. Start -> Process -> Stop and save it using File Menu(strictly). Set the Trigger Action property to Record Add, Record Update, Record Import and Manual.

Launch the workflow by adding the record first and check the task in the workflow tab.

Now try to launch it manually. If it is successful then change the properties as per your requirement and test it.

I did the same thing and it worked.

Hi Martin,

Your Workflow created in MS Visio is not getting saved correctly thats the reason you are not able to run the workflow.

- Try creating a very simple workflow say Start->Process->Stop and then check if you are able to execute the workflow.

- Also make sure you are using the right compatible version of MS Visio ie 2003 with MDM.

- Also refer the below document to check and see taht you have perform the right settings needed.

Hi there,

thank you for your very quick and straight forward support.

Here comes the solution (as it works here)

The point is NOT to save the workflow via the menu bar (disc symbol) at all!

After creating your workflow you simply close Visio - then you'll be asked wether you would like to save it or not.

Here you click yes.

After that - everything works fine.

So my conclusion is not to save the workflow file on your own by clicking the disk symbol!

This seems to disturb MDM - somehow.

Thanks again
