db_activate Hangs up

Former Member
0 Kudos

I am installing Maxdb 7.6.0.3 with Solution Manager SR4.

When comes to the phase 'Create Database Instance' the process hangs up, i have been waiting for more than 1 hour and nothing.Superdba password does not contain any @ symbol.

I can see the Datavolumnes and logvolumnes created on disk but the install doesnt go any further and even I cannot see the log file from sapinst, I need to check them a OS, it seems that sapinst hangs up.

I have tried to install the Database by myself but it hangs in the same point db activation.

krnelerr doesnt show any message

Here is the output of file XCMDOUT.log

Hi,

what does the machine do? Is there any I/O on the storage devcies? What OS do you use? Remember: creating data and log devices on file system basis can take a long time especially on older machines or slow storage (e.g. SCSI).

Please post the content of knldiag file; it contains error messages from the database which might be useful to determine the failure you ran into.

Regards

André

Thank you, after waiting like 3 hours it went through, strange was that in the server console I only saw a 1% o 0% Cpu utilization during those 3 hours, but the DB kernel was working.

Thank you all

Yes, formatting the volumes doesn't consume much CPU but harddisk I/O.

Hello Daniel,

According your information, at that time you run 'db_activate SUPERDBA,********'.

At that step the data & log volumes will be created by database kernel.

-> Please update with output of the following commands :

A) E:\sapdb\programs\pgm\dbmcli.exe -n tecbwsap08 -d T08 -u CONTROL,******** param_getvolsall

B) x_cons T08 show io

x_cons T08 show active

< after 1min run those commands again to compare the results >

-> Please post the knldiag file.

Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina
