Downtime requirement during Cutover for PI Implementation

Hello Gurus,

Our client is running Egate as middleware solution. We will be replacing Egate with PI .

I have a few questions:

1) What should be the driving factors for determining system downtime requirement during Production Cutover

2) What can be the backup/ rollback strategy.

Eagerly waiting for response or at least some pointers.

Thanks,

HImadri

HI,

I hope below information will help you for back up

Backup Strategy

Backups are performed unattended at intervals defined in the backup frequency table. SAP Components, Oracle 10g and folder system backups are done.

To implement best practice in Backup and restore strategy, consider the following goals and requirements from Business perspective.

Goals of implementing backup and restore strategy

The best practice should cover the following.

u2022 Backup & Restore for individual components (in lesser time)

u2022 Consistent Landscape Backups (in lesser time)

u2022 Incomplete recoveries (in lesser time)

The requirement of the following systems.

For Development and Quality servers.

Service support hours 8 hours per day and 5 days in a week

Maintenance window 8 hours per month.

For Production server.

Service support hours 24 hours per day and 7 days in a week.

Maintenance window 24 hours per year.

Landscape components:

SAP Net Weaver PI 7.0 and Solution Manager 4.0.

Supplementary full system backups must be made at regular intervals, at least monthly or when software is installed or upgraded.

Supplementary Backups

In addition to the database and archive log backups, other supplementary backups to include the full system level backup should be made regularly, e.g. monthly and yearly. In addition, these should be made as required during normal system maintenance activities and procedures that create major system changes such as hardware or software upgrades.

Backup Storage Location

Store backup media in a safe place such as a closed, fireproof safe. Store backups of data from the production system in a safe offsite location such as a safe deposit box.

Verifying Backups

Backups must be verified as defined in the schedule. Regularly performing a backup verification ensures that the backup process is correct and that data is being written to and may be read from backup media as expected. Verification should be performed at least once within a retention period.

Recovery Strategy

Restoration tool : brrestore

Restore media: staging area

Restoration time: depends on DB size and number of archive files used for recovery

(max 8 hours for PRD DB)

Since restoration will be faster from staging area compared to tapes,

Proposed to restore the data from staging area using brrestore tool
