If you problem needs a fast solution you should open an OSS call.

Your system is not started, that´s why the RFC fails.

Did you install your system with the hostname "localhost"?

Markus

Former Member

YEs the host which is used for the system .

This is not supported.

You need to configure a hostname and an IP in /etc/hosts, installations using "localhost" don't work.

Sorry it is my understanding mistake, hosts are configured and the ip address is configured , i have installed with the host which is configuered that is gbmnso1 and the ip is 10.1.70.60

Do i need to make any entry in the /hosts file and /services file

Hosts file

    1. Configured using SAM by root on Mon Apr 28 13:39:59 2008

    2. Configured using SAM by root on Tue Apr 15 11:20:47 2008

  1. @(#)B.11.11_LRhosts $Revision: 1.9.214.1 $ $Date: 96/10/08 13:20:01 $

#

  1. The form for each entry is:

  2. <internet address> <official hostname> <aliases>

#

  1. For example:

  2. 192.1.2.34 hpfcrm loghost

#

  1. See the hosts(4) manual page for more information.

  2. Note: The entries cannot be preceded by a space.

# The format described in this file is the correct format.

  1. The original Berkeley manual page contains an error in

# the format description.

#

10.252.3.40 eupopblox

10.1.70.60 gbmnso1

127.0.0.1 localhost loopback

/services file

  1. @(#)B.11.11_LRservices $Revision: 1.32.214.7 $ $Date: 97/09/10 14:50:42 $

#

  1. This file associates official service names and aliases with

  2. the port number and protocol the services use.

#

  1. Some of the services represented below are not supported on HP-UX.

  2. They are provided solely as a reference.

#

  1. The form for each entry is:

  2. <official service name> <port number/protocol name> <aliases>

#

  1. See the services(4) manual page for more information.

  2. Note: The entries cannot be preceded by a blank space.

Hi!

I am a bit confused about your hosts and services file.

Looks like you have lines in your hosts file which should be comments, but these lines doesn't start with "#".

HOSTS(5) manual page (unix) says:

Text from a "#" character until the end of the line is a comment, and is ignored.

Seems your host file is ignored because of wrong syntax.

This would explain why you cannot ping "localhost".

Thomas

This is due to the fact, that the poster didn't put the "<>" (code) tags around them after copy-and-paste and so the backend system (Jive) is "interpreting" those files instead of just plain posting them. Don't let yourself irritate by that.

I have checked th host file there is no "#" , when i pasted it might have come.

thanks,

Check your resolver configuration, it seems, that the /etc/hosts file is not taken into account:

- start sam

--> Networking and communication

--> Name Service Switch

configure the system so that the first lookup is /etc/hosts (not DNS).

Markus

Former Member
0 Kudos

I went into Name service switch

this is the information already existing

Type of inf First source second source Third source -

this is the heading

hosts - DNS-----NIS --- /etc/hosts --- under each heading each name

If the system can't do a "ping localhost" then something is wrong in that configuration...
