Dear All,

We work on ECC6 and our database is Oracle 10g.

I have following doubts still remaining about support package application and kernal upgrade.I also read the various links on SDN.

Please somebody clear my following doubts.

1.When I login to support portal>downloads>my company application component-->(so many components are there)what and from where we can download support package and kernal package?

2.How to uncar the .sar and .car files after downloading. Please tell the procedure or command?

3.Do I need solution manager for downloading support package and kernal package?

4.And if the answer to the 3rd question is yes.How to use solution manager for downloading?

Points will be rewarded for helpful suggestions

Regards,

Vicky

1. The best way of downloading patches is to do it using a full stack, so click on stack not on my company applications. If you are looking for a particular patch use the search tool.

2. sapcar -xvf <name of the file>

3. depending if the patch was release before or after April 2007, if after you need Maintainance Optimizer to approve the patch. Kernels do not require Maintainance Optimizer.

4. Using Maintainance Optimizer, all infor you need at http://service.sap.com/mopz

1. you can download from the link below.

http://service.sap.com/swdc

2. start -> run -> cmd

change the directory to patch directory i.e c:\cd patch

execute sapcar -xvf filename.sar

copy the extracted content into /usr/sap/trans/eps/in directory

login into sap system client 000

execute spam -> support package -> load packages from application server.

if you want to load it from sap gui then

execute spam -> support package -> load packages -> from front end -> give the path for support package file.

3. Not necessary to have solution manager for downloading support package and kernal package

@Syed.

This info in inaccurate and misleading.

1,- he already know where to get it, just want clarification on specific location.

2.- this is not related to his question.

3.- You do need Maintainance Optimizer for new SP's.

Please READ the threads before posting.

Juan

Vickey,

Juan answered most of your questions.

I would like to add to his answers.

2. You will find SAPCAR.exe in /usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/exe/run i.e. in Kernel Directory.

4. If you need to download Support package using Solution Manager .

Go to Service market place.

Select "knowledge exchange" tab

In the left hand panel go to Solution Manager version you have. e.g Solution Manager 7.0

Select "Technology Consultant & System Administrator"

Select "Technical Configuration"

Select "Maintenance Optimizer - Normal Usage"

You will find a very good simulator to download Support Packages.

There you can explore the other Solution Manager settings as well....

All the best.
