Example will help u. Say ORDERS idoc.

Here Idoc Type OR Message Type is ORDERS.

Basic Type is ORDERS01, ORDERS02 etc i.e., different type of messages in same category ORDERS.

Hi

one message can also be assigned to different IDoc types (m:n relationship)

The message ORDERS (= message type) identifies purchase orders (outbound) and sales orders (inbound)

Thanks

Hi,

Idoc Types and the Basic Types are the same which is provided by SAP Standard Idoc Names. This will have the releases like 01, 02 ,03

And the Message type names will be the same as Idoc type name with out releases

The combination of the message type & Idoc type will be------CREMAS.CREMAS03( Message type.Idoc type)

Check this Screen for better clarity , and we added some extra Segments to the standard Idoc also, so thats why it has the Extension also

Hi krish,

Message type normally refers to the type of the related data that has to be sent as Idoc (eg.,CREMAS,MATMAS-material data).IDOC type tells you about which IDOC has to be used to send the Related business data.because all the idoc may not have all the required fields that suits your business as the fields might need to be changed as per the requirements. So to recognise that we use the naming conventions lik MATMAS.MATMAS01 etc., (MATMAS is message type) MATMAS01 is the Idoc type that suits my data to hold.

Thanks,

Raj.

Idoc type and basic type

Some IDoc types are supplied by SAP in the standard system: These are the basic types . Other IDoc types are customer extensions: In these cases, a basic type is combined with an extension which is created by the customer, according to certain rules.

Different terms are used : The current basic type was previously called a "basic IDoc type" and an extension was called an "extension type".

The term "IDoc type" was used to denote both the extended basic type and the umbrella term.

Message type

A message type comprises a data type that describes the structure of a message.
