Error communication from R3 to MDM

We are dealing with a MDM project where updating of sales conditions in SAP R3 is important.

We receive 2-3 million of records from external vendors which we import into MDM and export to SAP PI, and then converts to standard IDOC COND_A for updating in SAP R3.

We are talking about how to handle IDOC errors in SAP R3.

Is it possible to route errors on IDOC in SAP R3 back to SAP MDM?

We hope that our master data management departement only need to work in the application SAP MDM in the future.

Hi Terje,

If we are importing the records from external vendors into MDM and then working on them and exporting it back to the R/3 system and the Idocs fails at this step then the PI system is capable enough th find the reason of the Idoc failure

For eg Status 51 will show that the idoc has failed due to some Data error and also can find out which field is giving the prob.

So accordingly the error can be corrected and the file resend to PI where it will post the corrected idoc in R/3.

Routing the idoc error to MDM is not possible and also MDM can correct the idoc failure error only if its scope is within MDM.

If the error is in the R/3 system due to any reason then Pi will have to communicate it accordingly.

I think Pi is more suitable for idocs handling and should be handling the idocs errors .
