No need extra tools for XI. XI/PI is integration tool we can integrate with any R3 system or third party system using XI. Through adapters/webservies/proxies (ABAP or JAVA) we can communicate with any type of system.
XI itself is the middleware tool to transfer the data from one app to another app.

There is no Other Tools used in XI.
XI is itself a Middleware Tool for Intagrating the Applications
