SLD Details

Hi

We are running XI 3.0. In our XI landscape, we have XI Dev, XI QA and XI Prd servers. Each servers have their own SLD.

Now we are looking to have one central SLD configured either on Solution Manager 4.0 server or in one of XI servers.

In some of oss notes, It mentioned to have different SLD for Production servers and another SLD for DEV/QA servers.

Any suggestion about it? Do it benefit to have one central SLD or different SLD for each servers. I can undersatnd that administration work would be simple for one central SLD and

what would be the suggestion if there is any software or hardware problem of Server where we will have central SLD configured.

Pls suggest the SLD reference documentation for details.

Thanks

Amar

HI,

Its depends on requirement, most of the requirement going on central SLD why because transportation problems will be sorted out easily and save development time also. In XI/PI SLD part is one time configuration no one change each time. So central SLD configuration is better way.

Below link will help u

HI ,

Previously SAP prefers to have the common SLD for all landscapes, but as per today's business requirments there is need to go for seperate SLD for development, Quality & Prod.

It completely depends if the Integration of the various applications or Business are based on various landscapes.

For .eg If in case the Sender and recevier applications are same for dev, Quality, Prod. XI servers then its better to have common SLD, but the sender and receivers systems are seperate for dev, pord etc. then it becomes very vauge to maintain all landscape in common SLD. rather maintaining seperate SLDs could help to channelaize it in well organized way.

You go through this Disscussion

Configuration of CMS in Central NWDI & SLD to transport XI objects:

Refer the configuring group and transport group for Business systems.

HI,

The usage of Central SLD or Seperate SLD s depends upon the verious situations.

The general guideline from Development is to implement as few SLD as needed. Have you seen the SLD Planning Guide on SMP?

http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700003772322006E

it is helpful in determining how many SLD to deploy and where.

The SLD it's like a DSN, if just give information to the system that ask, so the SLD can manage all the system you want, more XI instances, portal, solution manager....

Follow with attention this note: 720717

The note wil help you to set the correct parameters in all the points where the SLD it's named.

If you go for a local/seperate SLD then your sld will be installed on the same server where your WEBAS engine is installed. All the objects will be imported on that server.Later on you can add other instances onto the SLD of your machine if it is in domain.

If there is some central SLD available you can register your instance there for ex:sldmain.wdf.sap.corp is the central SLD.Then you can register your instance in this SLD if you know the username, pwd etc for that central SLD.

Amar,

We are setting up one SLD for DEV and QA (points to the DEV SLD via config) and a slave (copy) for PRD

All objects will be defined in the DEV SLD. SLD transport configuration from DEV to QA and DEV to PRD

There is no right or wrong answer here

Refer to SAP OSS Note 764393 - Configuration of the SAP System Landscape
