Some questions on SRM 2007

Former Member

Hi All

As per my earlier knowledge SRM 2007 ( EBP 6.0) is going to be released in Q4 2008.

I read some people referring to it as SRM 7.0.

1) Is this wrong or SAP has officially changed it to SRM 7.0.

2) What is the corresponding version for SUS ?

3) Is MDM an absolute must for SRM 2007 , or CCM is OK?

Regards

Kedar

Hi,

1) Is this wrong or SAP has officially changed it to SRM 7.0

--> yes

2) What is the corresponding version for SUS?

--> same like SRM as it is part of the SRM Server

3) Is MDM an absolute must for SRM 2007 , or CCM is OK?

--> not a must; only when you want to use the catalog. CCM is not the official catalog anymore. You can connect any catalog to SRM 7.0, so when you have CCM in use, you can connect.

(there is no development on CCM anymore, maintenance end is I think in 2012).

Cheers,

Claudia

Hi! I have just been to a SRM-MDM course 2 months ago and was told that SRM 7.0 will not be compatible with CCM. Support for CCM will end in year 2013. So, you definitely have to use MDM for your catalog solution.

And no, SRM 7 is not SRM 6. SRM 6 is SRM 2007.

Also, SRM 6/2007 will not be rolled out to other clients. It is only used by clients involved in the original ramp-up.

Thanks a lot Claudia, Kathirvel and SF.

So I have gathered the facts as below:

1) SRM 7.0 will be generally available in Nov 2008.

2) SRM 2007 ( EBP 6.0) is not available widely and only used by the ramp up customers.

2) MDM catalogue is a must if one needs to use SRM 7.0 along with catalogs.

So further I have only one question as below:

For customers who are on SRM 4, is it worthwhile to move to SRM 7.0 , after Nov 2008 , or should they still go to a much older release ( SRM 2005) first and then to SRM 7.0?

Pls. share your views.

I would recommend to go for the latest relaese for the two main reasons:

1. You will have a whole lot of new features

2. The product will be supported by SAP for longer period comparing to previous releases.

Hope this clarifies.

I just talked to a friend who has seen a presentation on this from SAP. It says that ramp-up for SRM 7.0 does not start until December 2008 and it will not be generally available until the middle of 2009.

If someone has any documented information contradicting that I would really like to see it.

Thanks Paul.

In the release strategy pdf viewable at:

https://websmp208.sap-ag.de/releasestrategy

It is mentioned that SRM 7.0 : Availability (Release to Customer) is November 2008.

I am not sure whether they mean ramp up or general release by that.

Can someone advise?

I am quite certain it is for ramp-up but not sure when the general release will be. So, if the customer plans to upgrade in the next 3-6 months, it might be better going for SRM 5.0. Note that SRM 7.0 is quite different from the older versions with different look and feel, possibly inclusion of some of the fuctionalities available in e-sourcing and CLM (like legal clauses and Dutch Auction), and revamp of workflow.

Regardless of which version of SRM you move to, it may pay to use SRM-MDM as your catalogue.

Hello everyone,

I found this thread incredibly interesting. There are frequent questions coming from clients and internally about SRM 7.0. But there seems to be a lack of documentation (or at least itu2019s difficult to find). The last official memo from SAP I know of is nearly a year old (Oct 2007 https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700001040832007E/SRM2007Communication.pdf). The release documentation (https://websmp208.sap-ag.de/releasestrategy) is dated Jan 2008, which states release November 2008.

In light of this have a couple of questions:

- Does anyone have (or know of) any documentation detailing the new functionality compared to SRM 5.0 (or SRM 4.0)?

- Does anyone know of any more recent official communication from SAP other than those mentioned above?

Any help gratefully received.

Adding to what Claudia has replied:

You can find the official communication by SAP for external customer in the below link

https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/~sapdownload/011000358700001040832007E/SRM2007Communication.pdf

CCM 2.0 is supported till 2013,
