Send purchase order via email (external send) with special Czech characters

Former Member

Hi all,

I am sending a purchase order created with ME21N via email to the vendor using "external send".

The mail is delivered without any problems, PO is attached to the mail as PDF file.

Problem is that special Czech characters as "ž" or "u0161" are not displayed, a "#" (hash) appears instead.

This problem occurs when language for PO output = EN.

Tests with language = CS worked out fine, but the whole form incl. all texts are in Czech as well; so no valid solution since it needs to be in English.

We checked SAPCONNECT configuration and raised note 665947; this is working properly.

When displaying the PO (ME23N) special characters are shown correctly as well.

Could you please let me know how to proceed with that issue?!

Thanks.

Florian

Which device type did you select in SPAD?

I2HPPS. (and in scot also I2HPPS for language EN)

And when sending a purchase order in HR (Croatian), special characters are ok.

Hi Markus,

for device type PDF1 we have following setup:

Version = 7

Base device type = POST2 POST2 : PS lv. 2 ISO Latin1 R4.5A+ONLY!

Driver = PDF1 PDF Converter

Printer driver = PDF1 PDF Converter

Argument =

1. Character set = 1117 Printer POSTSCPT ISO 8859/1 (Latin 1)

Synt. character set = 0

Thanks for your input.

This is all really strange...

Is note "992915 - PDF converter: Character Dstroke/Dcroat missing for Latin-2" maybe a solution?

Markus

No, because even now we have missing Dstroke/Dcroat in croatian pdf, but all other letters are ok.

No, because even now we have missing Dstroke/Dcroat in croatian pdf, but all other letters are ok.

so that note applies (fixed with SP20, you´re on SP19)

I´m running out of ideas... I would open an OSS call and ask for assistance for the other problem.

no, I'm on SP15, but same thing.

Florian, maybe note: Note 785564 - Device types for SAPconnect can help You. (doesn't help to me)

Maybe this problem is associate with note: Note 694151 - SMTP Plug-in: Multi-code page ability (3)

but, even when we tried to edit table: SXCPSEND it doesn't help

Which code page should be correct to send PDF in english with Latin-2 characters?

so, it looks that main question is:

How to force SAP, that, when generating PDF in english, use code page that support Latin-2?

The SCOT settings changes would be "too late", those settings are necessary if you send text files containing characters. The PDF is at that time already generated. The codepage of the SMTP won´t change it.

As far as I know is a "mixture" of different codepages in a PDF document only available if your system is Unicode.

The croatian diacritics may be in Latin-1 (or those, that you actually render) whereas the czech diacritics are not.

Yes, system is Unicode.

The croatian diacritics are in Latin-2.

yes - or course they are in Latin-2 - I just thought, "some" of them (that are printed correctly) are also in Latin-1.

So to summarize:

You want to print a purchase order in english with special characters (from CZ), right? I wonder about the device definition:

1. Character set = 1117 Printer POSTSCPT ISO 8859/1 (Latin 1)

Synt. character set = 0

That codepage can´t for sure not print Latin-2 characters.

So,

1. I don't have problem with printing purchase order in english with special characters (from HR (Croatia). Printout is ok.

2. In this thread is another user which have same problem with Czech characters. I have same problem with Croatian characters.

3. I use character set = 1417, which is default for device type I2HPPS.

4. problem is only in generated PDF from purchase order, sent by email using external send, in language EN.

OSS:

if you want to get a correct PDF conversion of Croatian characters,

if the language of the document is English, you must use the

Cascading Fonts, which are described in note 999712.

Solution for non-unicode systems (can also be used for unicode) is in SCON - Settings - Device Types for Format Conversions - create row(s) for lang. EN, DE, ... with Dev. Type supporting LATIN-2 e.g.:

PDF DE German S SAPscript/Smart Forms I2SWIN

(or change dev. type for default PDF record (without lang. specification))

Hi Markus, all,

is there any news on that issue?

We are trying to email an Enligsh purchase order as PDF attachment via email.

Configuration in SCOT is as follows:

Tar. Lang. Lang. Output Format Dev. type

Format

PDF EN English PDF1

It seems Device Type "PDF1" does not support Czech special characters.

Can this device type be updated or is there another device type that supports all (Czech) special characters?

Thanks for your answer.

Just a guess (because you didn't specify which release you are using):

Did you check note 588724 - PDF conversion: incorrect special characters with Latin-2

Hi Markus,

Out release is:

Software component: SAP_BASIS

Release: 640

Level: 0019

Highest Support Package: SAPKB64019

The note you are reffering to is from 24.01.2003 and delivered with support package "SAP_BASIS 620 SAPKB62019".

I guess this is included in our system version already hence the note is not applicable to my issue.

Do you have some more ideas how to get this solved?!

Thanks,

Florian

Is your system a Unicode system?

What´s the codpage you gave for the SMTP in transaction SCOT?

Markus

Hi!

No, it's not a Unicode system.

It is maintained as:

Tar. Lang. Lang. Output Format Dev. type

Format

PDF EN English PDF1

Using this option, character "ž" was not displayed correctly, but "Ú" was ok.

All other Czech special characters are not tested so far.

Thanks,

Florian
