Communications type user - password expiring !!!!

Hi

We are on XI 3.0 ( SP 18 ) and have a webservice on the XI box that is consumed by a *net application. The userid used by the *net application to invoke the webservice is XIWSUSER ( created by us for all applications that needs to consume a webservice on XI ) . This user type has been set to type communications.

Now we see that the password for this user expires every 90 days. We get an indication of this expiry whenever the call to the XI webservice from the *net application fails. When that happens, we try to reach the url of the webservice from our IE browser and when we give the credentials for XIWSUSER when asked, we are redirected to a screen on the J2EE - indicating that the password has expired & asking us for a new password.

Did anybody out there experience the same issue with the user type communications ? Is there any extra attribute on the J2EE server side that must be set for this type of SAP user so that the password for such a user type does not expire ?

Hey

You can go in SU01 and enter the user ID,then select "Logon data" and check its validity period.

Thanx

Hi Aamir,

I have read that SAP has changed some password policies with latest versions.

Checked it out in ASUG also.

Moreover, for end dated ID you don't get a message ... password expired....;)

Hi Karthik,

Please change the user type to SYSTEM. Passwords for which doesn't expire and they are almost same as communication ID

SAP has changed the policy to expire the password of communication IDs also.

We have also faced the same issue in our XI systems, we changed it to SYSTEM and it is working fine now.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The documentation for Type 'System' user indicates this type of user should be user for internal communication within a system. Is it ok to user this type of user to expose a webservice on XI that is being consumed by applications outside of the XI system ?

Hi Karthik,

As such there is no harm in changing the user type to SYSTEM for the IDs, and it works fine.

In our case it is working fine.

Aamir : No issues with that Just wanted to make sure that correct message is conveyed to the Karthik
