Oracle

Data back up normally consists of all your datafiles and online redo logs and control files.

log backup contains the informationa about the committed transactions .

In case you need to roll forward or roll back your system for recovery .You need log backups.

MSSQL

You have data backup and transaction log.

Max DB(live cache)

You data backup and log backup.

And concept is same across all DB's

You mat get better definition if you read some notes on OSS or net about backup and recovery.

Hope it help.

Hiii

Log Backup in the sense taking Backup of log at regular

Intervels..When we take backup of data alone is not a good

practice as when restoring current state both the data and log

entries should be available in the Database system. Also taking

space into consideration If log entries are not written into

Database chances are there that the Database might Stop.

Hi,

What log backup you want? Transactional log i.e database log backup or some of the application log backups which one?

If you want to backup the transactional log of database then use db13.
